What can I do to increase drop rarity?
Now, if anyone replies with "you cannot do anything to affect drop rarity!" thats pure bull. I have been with my guild leader as opposed to other people and gotten alot higher end items then otherwise. I know it has to do with ranks and titles, but im not sure how much they actually affect the droprate. if anyone can help me out here, it would be greatly appreicaited.

my old guild leader ran chests all the time. he opened somewhere around 600 high end chests last time i asked him, and he gets req 9 rare skins almost every day. sometimes theyre just barely worth enough to make back his key cash, other times its major money. he just made his second FoW set, all the money came from chest drops. but you almost need to have big money to make big money from that, im not sure about monster drops. i notice if im carrying a lot of a crafting material it seems to drop more often for me, so you might look into that

Go solo, otherwise you share what drops. If you over-farm an area the drops decrease. That's all the magic there is.

Im sure there are alot of superstitons but the things that affect the drops are the monster, where it is, and what level its on.
Aside from that the first few monsters you kill in an area tend to drop less Beware the anti farm code. |

you can just decrease your drop rarity by overfarming Last edited by the heal0r; Feb 27, 2007 at 12:43 AM // 00:43.. |

Drops have a x% chance of dropping and that's fixed unless Anet decides to change it. Since the x% chance is applied every time you get a drop, it means that for example if an items has 25% chance of dropping, you won't get the item 1 time out of 4 but that rather each time you have a drop there's a 25% chance of the drop being that particular item. Basically this leads to the fact that for 2 months you could get that drop every time and then go back to a normal drop rate for that item. Probabilities being what they are, they only work well over extended periods of time making drops practically random.
The only thing affecting drop rarity is the area where you are, you are more likely to get high end drops in FoW than in Ascalon. For example, rubies drop more frequently in FoW but Hulking Stone Elementals are also known to drop those just less often than any enemy in FoW. |

Everyday leave a little bit of you food on you plate, just enough so you are a little hungry. This is a small sacrifice to the Drop Gods - they also tend to like personalized prayers in conjunction with it.
Other good luck charms include a Rabbit's foot, making sure you wear the same underwear as when you got your best run, and possibly rubbing the head of a lucky statue. If your sure your guild leader has the secret, ask him/her. |

The higher level the area is the higher the probability
If the probability is 5% you get a 1 in 20 chance it will drop. If you are in a 8 man party you will get a 1 in 20 x 8 = 1 in 160 chance it will drop for you. You may solo farm a boss and get 2 drops on the bounce or you could do it 50 times with no luck, persistance pays. Depends on probabilty asigned to said item and just how damn lucky you are Turning off the anti farm notification isn't doin you any favours, although i haven't noticed anti-farm kickin much of late tbh having high level of wisdom will give you a better chance of stripping mods of a crappy weap without loosing it totally, but it won't effect the quality of the drop in the first place. Run 600 chests and your bound to get a few decent drops as apposed to someone running 20-30 chests It may help to hang a silver horse shoe around your neck and throw a pinch of salt over your shoulder before you play!! |

I think it has a lot to do with experience points. I have been with people with way more exp then me and they always got the goods drops while I got crap. Recently I was out with a guildie with less exp and I was the one getting the gold.

Let me be the first to tell you... no. That can't be it. =)
(I have 5.5mil exp on my main and she hardly ever gets anything in a group of other players. The only thing that makes it bearable is that the drops go to friends.) |

Hard to believe, but all drops are random. No titles or EXP points will change that, some people do have more luck than other. If you want more drop for yourself try solo farm, if the anti farm kick in move to different area.

In my opinion it has to do with how often you play a character...for example of what has happened to me on various occasions.. I have a main character that I play all my pve on ....i usually play it for a week or so straight..anytime I am on...then i will get bored and go PVP for a week or atleast 3-4 days and not even log in my main pve toon. Then when i get tired of PVP i switch back and log in my main and he gets unbelievable drops for about 2-3 hours. i once got 3 black dyes in the same run after not playing him for 3-4 days. So thats my theory and I am sticking to it :P
but its most likely what all the others have stated...totally random...but you never know...I usually sit down in my chair and spin around 3 times before i enter a battle in pvp as well (joking) |

It's not really totally random - it's a matter of the formula previously stated here, that's all.

"Lucky Aura" from Lunar Fortunes....as of yet, the effect is unknown, but the possibility seems likely.
Otherwise, the ONLY way to increase your chances of good drops is to rotate areas in which yoiu farm for goods to prevent the overfarming code to kick in and decrease your drop rate. Rank, title and experience has NO EFFECT on drop rates, though it can effect the likelihood of not destroying a salvagable item. There is NO SECRET to good drops beyond common sense and persistence. ALL theories related to increasing drop rates are utter nonsense, rumor and bunk. If you want to increase the number of rare items, you simply need to increase the time you spend playing the game....PERIOD! |

I think you are on to something I used this farming out side of LA and on four runs with the blessing I got two golds from the birdmen. But I used it once on green runs in Sorrow Furnace and got nothing. By no means is this confirmed but it would make a lot of sense if it did increase the chance for drops from monsters. |
